Nine Stone Close [2024, Paul Vivian, 6:37]
The two audio soundscapes Nine Stone Close and Avebury Sanctuary Complex our both collected field recordings made directly from the surface and base of Neolithic standing stones at the stone circle sites of Nine Stone Close, Peak District UK and Avebury, Wiltshire UK. respectively. They represent an aspect of my practice that employs a unique form of Archeoacoustics. These sound recordings were made between February and May 2023 and are part of an ongoing project exploring the object animism inherent within these ancient sites. The resulting recordings are developed as sound works, soundscapes for moving image documenting these circles and installation. I have previously presented papers on this work with the Tate Liverpool, UK, University of the Creative Arts, UK and Research Groups in Manchester and Sheffield, UK. These soundscapes are composite edits of the numerous field recordings made during the Feb-May period of last year.
